Got demons?

In 1 Samuel chapter 16:13, is the beginning of David’s rise to becoming a central figure in Jewish history. He is a brave and valiant figure respected by all, eventually including his former nemesis and arch enemy, Saul.

We see in verse 13 that the Spirit of the Lord came upon David, and in verse 14 the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul. Then it gets much worse for Saul;

13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.

14 But the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord troubled him.

15 And Saul's servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee.

16 Let our lord now command thy servants, which are before thee, to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well.

17 And Saul said unto his servants, Provide me now a man that can play well, and bring him to me.

The first to notice that Saul had been given over to demonic entities were Saul’s servants, undoubtedly noticing a character change in him. But what happens next is fascinating, when the servants convince Saul to bring in a harp player. While listening to the harp, the demons would desist in their tormenting of Saul. And who did Saul choose to be his personal harp player? None other than the future king of Israel, David, son of Jesse the Bethlehemite.

I won’t go into the rest of the story, but just know that Saul had every opportunity to please God. Instead, he was prideful, took matters into his own hands, did not wait on the Lord, broke a strict command crossing the line between king and priest, and consulted a witch to conjure an audience with Samuel, among other things. I often tell people not to leave open doors and windows for demons to enter, but Saul removed the walls and the roof! And as a result, God left him to his own choices, the anointing went to David. The rest is history.

If you recall in a previous blog post I shared some insight on the Hebrew language comprised of 22 letters, each of which correspond directly to a note on the 22 stringed harp of David. I also shared the incredible work of Steve Rees who went to the painstaking effort of digging into the original Hebrew texts of the Psalms, and letter by letter rewrote the Psalms to music in their corresponding Hebrew letter-notes.

In this story of Saul, there are some very valuable lessons to be learned. The first of which is pray that the Spirit of God is always with you, and that you would never do anything to be abandoned the way that Saul was. We are a blessed generation to be able to clear our names in the courts of heaven by the blood sacrifice of the perfect lamb without blemish. On our own we are filthy rags, but through Yehshua we are able to stand before God without shame. Beyond that, demons hate the word of God in any form. But if the story of Saul is an example, it appears that the word of God converted back to music is far more than they can bear.

This is not intended to replace spiritual warfare by any stretch of the imagination. There are times when demons hang on persistently, and when they do, stand on the word, stay atoned, call out to Yehshua, and play a 3000yr old Psalm in Hebrew for those persistent nuisances. They can appear from nowhere at the least expected times. They each have an assignment and most of them have been assigned to us since we were toddlers, waiting for us to open a door for them to enter. A couple of weeks ago, I had one of those persistent ones inducing horrible dreams, and trying to provoke fear and discouragement.

So, by special request, I am posting the 5 songs I have available from Steve Rees on the podcast. You can listen there at your convenience, but I strongly urge you to go to Steve’s website and order something or make a donation to help compensate for this incredible work he has blessed us with! Here is his website:

Below are the links to each of the Psalms he has recorded that I have available. I am not sure if he has more available but please check his website and support him in some way. I actually spoke with Steve Rees on the phone one day and he is a very humble and interesting man, chosen by God for this work. Please show him some appreciation if you benefit from these recordings. As we all know, satan despises each and every one of God’s servants, so give Steve your support please.

As you listen, for greater effect read along from the Psalms whenever possible.

To listen in the future, just go to podbean, or if by phone you can get the app, search for mdwood555, and scroll through these podcasts. The reason for mdwood555 is because I had the podcast before the website and not sure how to change it!
