The ancient spirit of deception…..

This verse from David just doesn’t sound characteristic of the man we perceive that David was. While the life of David was not without it’s dishonorable moments, lying lips are out of sync with the author of the book of Psalms, wouldn’t it seem?

The problem is that the stronger we are in the Word and in Christ, the more our defenses must be in place to resist satan’s tactics of entrapment. In Derek Prince’s book “They shall expel demons”, he talks about casting out demons from a pastor's wife who had this “lying spirit”. So to be clear, while we are all liars, thieves, adulterers, etc, as the imperfect lineage of man, a lying tongue is also evidence of a demonic spirit, a spirit of deception. Prince also says that demons try to connect with children at a very early age, and that by the age of 5, if parents are not praying against evil spirits, they will be influencing children from their youth. I believe that the spirit of deception begins at an early age, and must be defeated /cast out, at an early age. As we see from David’s words in Psalms 102, it is a life long effort to be constantly vigilant of the subtlety of demonic activity, and rebuke it immediately. The Holy Spirit is the spirit of truth (John 16:13) and makes us aware of our shortcomings in the spirit, you will immediately hear His voice in your mind when you have crossed the line. The key is to not embrace even a subtle demonic influence, but rebuke it at once. Follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit, constantly and throughout the day! Resist the devil and he will flee from you! (James 4:7)

Therefore, as Paul says: “Rejoice in the Lord - Pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians chapter 5) - When we are in a state of perpetual intercession throughout the day, demons flee from us. They will not hang around to hear the name of Yehshua constantly being spoken. We must irritate them and drive them out day and night by the constant uttering of the name of our King!

Now consider that this demonic influence is already at work, according to Derek Prince, even before the age of 5 in children. Perhaps our greatest responsibility as parents then, is to teach our children the power of prayer. Teach them the name of God, and of the Son, and how to call upon them. God favors the little ones in their innocence, but if they don’t know Him? By the way, I love the parable of the child in Matthew 18:

“At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? 2 And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, 3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. 4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. 6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.”

If you have children, hold their hand at night before they sleep, and pray with them, always in the name of Yehshua, or Jesus if you prefer, and pray Psalms 91 over them, that God command His Holy angels to keep them in all their ways! And if you don’t have children, pray these prayers for yourself! (See Psalms 91) We must instruct our children in the ways of the “Word”, who was with God and was God from the beginning.

“And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.” Deuteronomy 6:6-7
